Lakshya '09 Experiences by Deepika Malhotra

LAKSHYA!!!
A series of contests.... No ways, a conclave ... naa, calling it an event belittles its aura - ohff I really donno how to describe it. Anyways that's not my job even I am here simply to share my experiences of Lakshya's 10th edition.
Lakshya to me is a real time movie with only difference that its every participant is an actor. Uncounted sleepless nights, never ending dedication, effortful team work, an year long preparation and of course pre-defined target is what it takes in the making of Lakshya and finally the time comes when this movie is screened for 3 continuous days. One can easily sense an unbelievable enthusiasm, a unique passion and rich learning associated with each and every sphere of it. As a spectator one comes across various B-plans and projects implemented in different industries, as an anchor one learns to manage the excitement of sharing the stage with the top stalwarts including your role models, as an organizer one learns the importance of Zero Defects where the slightest disturbance might lead to a flop show, for event coordinators it’s an examination of their pressure handing capabilities which they must clear at every stage and so on.
I feel myself fortunate even to have played many role in the last edition, although small but were good enough to teach me the practical lessons of multi-tasking, stress management, time management, error management (sounds new!!) and the related consequences... :)
And even if all this isn't it enough for you to feel its importance then come and explore yourself when it is evinced this year.
I wish Team Lakshya ALL THE BEST and hope to have more fun & memories in Lakshya '10.

"Breaking the barriers" – Republic Day Message

It was always said and seen that there exists a gap between the academics and the industrial environment in Indian context which makes us one step behind any developed countries. Only Education system can bridge the economic differences and can give us the required momentum to become developed country, and much has been talked about the present Indian Education system but solutions seem to be far above anyone's thought.

NITIE has earned its reputation in Industrial circles for its practical model of working together with the Industries, esp. consultancies and projects offered and, guided through NITIE's eminent professors and letting students to adapt themselves to the dynamic situations of the business.
But what PGDIE students found was far more practical, workable, easy-to-learn model for pacing along Industries through the event Lakshya - The Flagship event of NITIE, Mumbai. The 3-day corporate magnum opus, wherein executives from various industrial domains share their innovative and path-breaking projects with B-school student community.
Industry-Institute relation can never become better than this. There are no such models which bring corporate world to share their invaluable, technology and management projects in a public forum.

When students are exposed to such projects they get a clear vision where the industry is working in and where they are moving to. This helps them in identifying their profiles, career path and more importantly gives them the push to develop themselves for realizing their dreams. And of course what else could be the best method to learn other than learning by experience.
The result is very evident as the number of students of PGDIE getting summer interns in MNCs and eventually converting them into Pre placement offers are increasing batch after batch. This is due to the learning that this event provides the aspirant - the right direction and magnitude towards the excellence.

What is even greater in this is that, the entire event is being organized by the batch of PGDIE which again inculcates Team spirit and professionalism in the way the students work and think. It would be fruitful if such models are being used in our Education System which would make us realize the dream "India - The Superpower".

LAKSHYA is the secret of My Lakshya – Our Lakshya !!

To start my 1st blog, Lemme take a couple of minutes to remember the fond founders, who sparked themselves 10 years down the lane, to enflame the spirit of PGDIE – well, in short the spirit of NITIE. This maternity period took a bit longer time – 10 years to deliver the kinda Lakshya dreamt a decade back. Well, PGDIE, the mother has not seen anything less than the struggle of a mother delivering a baby, but more than that. Salutations to the stalwarts of the past, for their dreams & efforts that delivered the Lakshya last year 2009. Now, we shall celebrate the first birthday of the Saga of knowledge this year which is all set to accelerate its magnitude manifold !! Imagine how a big banyan tree is possible from a small bead sized seed. Here s our Lakshya like a seed, yet to grow up even bigger than a banyan tree. The seeds are in the minds of every PGDIEan. Friends, I may sound premature to talk about such a magnitude of Lakshya, now. Wait & see the exponential growth of it, which is going to revolutionize NITIE’s industrialization in the global scenario, where Participants would compete from different nations. Why not ? Lets start dreaming big & evolve our Vision !
Let’s have an upscale theme for every year Lakshya in line with the developments, India & the world is seeing. LAKSHYA is PGDIE’s lakshya, while every PGDIEan ‘s lakshya is a component of it. You know why ? Lakshya is the best platform for each of us to conceive our goals & experiment it with pride. Everybody dreams of improving different dimensions of one’s personality, be it professional, academic, entrepreneurial, social, philanthropic or whatever. Lets catch hold of this vehicle & reach out to what we wanted. There we can see ‘My’ Lakshya transforming into the success of ‘Our’ Lakshya. Its time we dream big ; dream together & unfold them to the world. Guyz, believe it or not ! It’s a life time experience working for this. Realize for yourself, ‘the Ultimate Gifts’ you reap out of Our Lakshya would be a strengthened spirit, a wise mind and a confident guts. Is nt Our Lakshya magnanimous !?!
Here I would like to quote the ‘CLASS’ values followed by every professional at Mind Tree organization:
C-aring (for all stakeholders)
L-earning (Personal development & building a spirit of constant innovation
A-chieving ( Aspiration, accountability & action orientation)
S-haring (Teamwork, building knowledge & encouragement)
S-Ocial Responsibility ( being societal & imbibing spirit of integrity)
Now you would have understood how these values fit in for oue Lakshya also bcoz it no less than an organization now.
After all, it’s the pioneers’ odyssey !
